Sam has significant experience in solvent fund wind-down, LP and GP advisory, replacement investment manager and general partner services, complex and contentious restructuring, and transaction engagements, advising key stakeholders across a range of industries and with cross-border exposures. Sam has managed funds with AUM in excess of USD500 million. Sam’s recent work has included:
- Acting as the Replacement Investment Advisor to a middle eastern sponsored fund group, which invested into lease assets located across North America, LATAM and Europe. As part of this role, Sam advised the Investment Committee on strategic options to realize the underlying investments including leading various divestment and restructuring processes.
- Acting as the Investment Adviser to the Wildermuth Fund, which holds investments in 14 portfolio companies and various fund-of-fund investments. As part of this role, Sam acts as the Valuation Designee to the Wildermuth Fund and holds a trustee position in the Fund.
- Acting as the Replacement Investment Advisor to certain liquidating special purpose vehicles of Nokota, comprised of private equity investments and various fund-of-fund investments approximating USD170 million.
- Various directorship positions in joint venture projects in the United States with underlying investments in real estate, including aged care and hotels.
Sam is also an acting liquidator across a range of liquidations with investments and/or illiquid and litigious assets throughout the United States, LATAM, Sub-Sahara, Asia and Europe. Sam has significant experience across agribusiness, trade finance (with a focus on emerging markets), mining and mining services, energy generation and retail, transport and logistics and large-scale infrastructure.
Prior to joining Kroll, Sam spent 9 years working in one of Australia’s leading insolvency and restructuring firms, where he was involved in numerous complex transactional advisory and restructuring engagements throughout Australia, including the successful re-licensing of the Toys R Us brand out of insolvency, as well as high profile matters such as the restructuring of RCR Tomlinson and McAleese Group. Sam has also spent considerable time seconded to various corporates to manage large scale teams delivering performance improvement and post-acquisition integration.
Sam is a member of the International Insolvency Institute (NextGen), a committee member of the INSOL Technical Newsletter committee and was featured as in ‘Exception Experts’ by Financiers Worldwide “Power Players: Restructuring and Insolvency 2024” and the 2022 INSOL 40under40. Sam is a Chartered Accountant and has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia. Sam also completed the Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance (FINSIA) with a major of Corporate Finance and Advisory and the ARITA: Restructuring and Turnaround course.
