Co-President, Risk Advisory

Giles Derry is Co-President of the Risk Advisory practice and a member of the Executive Leadership Team, based in London. In this role, Giles oversees a diverse portfolio of global risk solutions, including cybersecurity advisory, data analytics, regulatory compliance, complex investigations, expert witness, restructuring, complex business services and related GRC technologies.

Since joining Kroll in 2020, Giles has held various executive positions, including most recently running the Governance and Risk Advisory practice and serving as Global Head of Expert Services. 

Before joining Kroll, Giles was Chief Executive Officer of Blackrock Expert Services Group, which Kroll acquired in 2020. During his four years of leadership, the company experienced significant growth, tripling in size through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions. They also established offices in Dubai, Paris and Singapore and expanded their service offerings from construction to technology and financial disputes.

Prior to Blackrock, Giles spent many years as a successful private equity investor. Initially at SandAire Private Equity and then at a leading UK private equity house, Dunedin. He was involved in a range of investments across several industry sectors. As a partner at Dunedin, Giles made the investment in Blackrock Expert Services, before joining the business in 2017.

Giles holds a degree in natural sciences from the University of Durham. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, having qualified at Arthur Andersen.  He is also a former Chairman of the Corporate Finance Faculty, an industry body.

Kroll analyzed global data from 400 senior leaders across three continents to gain insights into the current financial crime landscape and learn how technology might stop the threat of economic, crypto and ESG crimes.

Key findings from the report include:

  • Sixty-nine percent of global respondents expect financial crime risks to increase over the next 12 months.
  • Sixty-seven percent of global respondents plan to invest in technology in the next year to tackle the likely increase in financial crime.
  • The financial crime risk posed by cryptocurrency is a source of concern for 78% of participants.
  • Although survey respondents appear to feel confident in the accuracy of their ESG stories, 61% cited lack of standardization and limited data as the main challenges with reporting their ESG story.
